Rebecca Jane Higley was my great-great grandmother. She was
born June 26, 1845 at Yellow Creek, Illinois.
Rebecca was born just one year
after the martyrdom of Joseph Smith. Her family were dedicated members of the LDS
Church and emigrated to Utah.
She married Joseph Smith Sharp when she was just sixteen years old, on March 13, 1862. They moved to Tooele where they made their first home.
Joseph and Rebecca had four children born while they lived in Tooele: They were: Joseph Truman, born in 1864,
James Irven, born in 1867. William Franklin, born 1868, and Anna Rebecca, born in1870.
The family moved to Richmond, Utah the next year where they lived for two years. Lucy Ellen joined them there as their fifth child in 1972. They then were asked to moved to Franklin, Idaho to farm an area known as Poverty Flat. The sixth child, John Henry was born there in 1876.
The family then moved to Preston, Idaho before the seventh child, Araminta Elizabeth was born in 1877.
