Suel Lamb

Suel Lamb is my great-great grandfather. He was born March l, 1833 in Heron, New York.

When Suel was a small boy his parents joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, to be with the rest of the saints. He was baptized by his Uncle when he was 8 years old. He helped on the Nauvoo Temple carrying water. He knew the Prophet Joseph Smith well and was living in Nauvoo at the time of the Prophet's martyrdom. He was also at the meeting when the mantle of the Prophet Joseph fell upon Brigham Young. He was a man of great faith in the Lord.

One time he was picking hazelnuts when a rattlesnake bit him, poisoning his blood. It was thought that he would die. He was taken to the Nauvoo Temple and was given a priesthood blessing. Through the faith that was manifest he was made well again with no effects. He always had a testimony that he was saved through faith and prayer.

He, with his family, crossed the plains and came to Utah in 1852. While crossing the plains his father died of cholera. He had been walking to drive cows and became very hot and thirsty. When he came to a cold spring he over drank. That night he died and was buried by his family on the plains. Suel was 17 years old when his father died.

Suel, being the oldest son, had the responsibility to see that his mother and brothers and sisters were taken care of. They faced many trials on their journey to Utah. They left Nauvoo in 1846 and arrived in Salt Lake Valley in 1852.

In the summer of 1853 he went among the Indians as a missionary. While on his mission his mother moved to Lehi, Utah, with the family. He also went to Echo Canyon to help keep Johnston's army from coming into Utah.

When he returned to his mother and family he met and married Elizabeth Zimmerman on November 30, 1853, in Lehi, Utah, by Lorenzo Hatch. They were sealed in the Endowment House in Salt Lake in 1856 by President Heber C. Kimball.

They lived in Lehi until 1865 where they had six children. They then moved to Cache Valley and pioneered what was called the bottoms, later known as Benson Ward. Four more children were born into their family. They then moved to Hyde Park, Utah where they lived the remainder of his life.

Suel obeyed the commandment of plural marriage marrying Annie Weiss in 1864. In 1884 he married Susan Kirby. He was a religious man and an honest man. He was a counselor in the Hyde Park Ward bishopric for many years. He was a fervent genealogical and temple worker. He was an officiator as well as working for the dead in the temple.

He died in Hyde Park, Utah, February 10, 1913, and was buried in Hyde Park cemetery.
